"If you see something beautiful in someone, speak it."
I love a good call to action in a quote. This particular advice, and the action it produces, can add pure amazingness to your life and the lives of the people you speak beauty to.
Everyone - EVERYONE - likes a genuine compliment. From people they know, from strangers, anyone. It is a wonderful little gift we can give FOR FREE to anyone we so choose.
"It's OK to ride the struggle bus every once in a while. But it is never OK to get all about the hot mess express." - Karli Sherman
Everyone has rough days….or rough weeks for that matter. And that is OK. We can be OK with not being OK for a little while.
And that’s what riding the Struggle Bus is about. The Struggle Bus makes stops around town where you get on, ride around for a day (maybe longer), and then you get off.
It’s a temporary situation.
But the Hot Mess Express is a high speed train with its destination being Dumpster Fire. There is no getting on and getting off at the next stop.
It’s a way of life, a state of being.
You ARE a full on mess as a human.
And that is not ok; not professionally, interpersonally, spiritually, mentally, emotionally.
Avoid the Hot Mess Express at all costs.
"I know this transformation is painful; but you're not falling apart; you're just falling into something different; with a new capacity to be beautiful."
What a beautiful way to reframe transitions.
Life is full of transitions - a new job, a breakup, growing your family, moving, graduating, bereavement, injury, entrepreneurship, etc.
Really, life is one long series of transitions. And transitions, even positive ones, are hard.
It takes adjustment, growth, learning new skills, creating new habits.
And it can feel like we are losing control.
But if we reflect on the transition and learn from it - that is where a new beauty comes from.
"You are not required to set yourself on fire in order to keep others warm."
I’m all about generosity of your time, talents, resources, and spirit. But there can be a point when giving of yourself becomes destructive rather than fulfilling. And that is not ok.
We cannot be our best selves if we have to sacrifice our wellbeing for the sake of others. There are many ways to help others.
And if no one has told you, let me be the one to empower you to choose a way to help others that doesn’t sacrifice any part of yourself.
There are lots of ways to light a fire and many sources which provide heat - you don't have to burn.
"What a wonderful thought that some of the best days of our lives haven't happened yet."
I love that in one quote we are inspired to reflect on the best of our past experiences while also looking forward with excitement to our future.
I know I've had some amazing, wonderful, crazy beautiful days in my life. And I’m thrilled at the prospect of more of those - and maybe even some better ones - coming my way soon!
